The Real Difference Between ‘Making’ and ‘Taking’ Photos

One of the first things I learned when studying photography was the difference that exists in English between taking a photo and making a photo.

In French you can only « take photos », in English you can « make photos ». I am drawn to what that implies. When you’re MAKING a photo, you’re careful to compose your frame and willing to wait for the perfect expression or the perfect light. It’s a very intentional process.
